Growing up in Magnolia there weren’t many events to go to unless you counted going to church each week as an event. Of course back then we also didn’t have any fast-food restaurants either. There was only one hangout and that was the 50s diner The Hop.
Fast-forward 20 plus years and Magnolia is a sprawling enterprise. Instead of hundreds of acres of untouched piney woods, there are hundreds of acres of residential and commercial properties. Don’t worry though, Magnolia is far from the BIG CITY; it still retains its country charm, while mixing in the conveniences of modern life.
Now Magnolia hosts several events throughout the year, including this year’s Magnolia Miles bike ride on Saturday, March 20. This is one of the recommended rides for those training to ride in the BP MS 150 mile ride from Houston to Austin. We’ll call it the Tour de Tejas. Last year’s ride was a huge success and hundreds of riders are expected to attend this year.
If you’re interested in riding there are three routes provided, so some of us less hardcore bikers can enjoy a ride as well. Though I’m not sure how I would do on even the shortest route at 23 miles. The other routes are 41 and 71 miles. If you’re a rider or even a spectator it could be fun.
The best part of course is that there will be a $5 lunch provided by Hickory Hollow; if you’re never had their BBQ, you haven’t lived. There will also be massage therapists on location. And I bet you don’t even have to be a rider. You can find out more information by visiting MagnoliaMiles.com.
